Welcome to the Merthyr Tydfil Mendicants webpage. We are Merthyr's helping hand and reciprients of the Nicola Park Award 2016 for our outstainding contribution to volunteering.

The Merthyr Mendicants is a local charity, which comprises a group of dedicated fundraisers, who for the past sixty three years have relied upon the generosity of local residents, organisations and businesses within the County Borough of Merthyr Tydfil who help us to provide financial support to local charities, organisations, youth groups and individuals, who are otherwise unable to support themselves or their projects.
 
Mendicants hold monthly meetings on the second Monday of each month except the month of December, usually at the Conservative Club in the town centre. Meetings are recorded, forthcoming events planned and requests for financial assistance discussed and sanctioned where necessary.

Chairperson's Annual Dinner October 2024

This annual event took place on Friday the 4th October at the Morlais Castle Golf Club in the presence of Councillor Deputy Mayor Paula Layton, Councillor Declan Sammon, honoured guests and Mendicants.

Our chairperson, Byron O'Dea presented the Deputy Mayor Paula Layton with a cheque for £500 for the Mayor's chosen charity.

On Friday 18th November at the Voluntary Action Merthyr Tydfil AGM, the Hon. Secretary on behalf of the Mendicants accepted the Nicola Park Award for outstanding contribution to volunteering over a period of sixty four years
