Mendicants early years

By mid May 1963, with a Charter in place, first concert and jumble sale staged, it was obvious that the people of Merthyr Tydfil were prepared to support the new organisation, which now has £100 in the bank account.

From those early days to the present time, Mendicants have worked tirelessly and devoted numerous amounts of time raising vital funds to relieve hardship within the Borough. Although the types of fundraising activities have changed over the years, that work continues today throughout the year and culminates in December with the annual Brecon Mountain Railway trip, which is organised for school children, and the Santa Christmas sleigh, which can be seen at various locations in the town centre and is towed around selected areas of the Borough in the weeks leading up to Christmas.
